Sitar is the one of the most popular musical instrument in India. It has become India's culture. It is said that a poet in the court of Allaudin Khilji was the inventor of sitar. Sitar is made up of wood, mahogany, bone, metal or gourd.
Generally sitar conisits of two layer of strings made up of brass, steel and copper. The bottom layer consists of 13 steel strings which is reffered as taraf(Persian for excitement or joy). These strings are tuned into tones and used to give pleasent sound. THe top layer of seven strings is used to create melody. The remaining five strings lie on the bridge that spans the width of the neck of sitar.
Through the help of sitar very pleasent sound(rytheme) can be produced. It is generally suitable for religious type of songs. It is the oldest misical instrument and has become cultural and religion musical instrument for hindu people. It looks like guitar but the way of playing ani the rytheme and frequency produce is different but both produces heart touching tones.
